During the 31st of March and the 1st of April 2014, discussions were held with regard to the official visit of Senegalese President Maky Sall. For the first time since his election, this state visit provided him with the opportunity for President Macky Sall to meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

The main topics that were discussed between the two chief of States were bilateral relations and the economic cooperation between Senegal and Germany. Indeed Chancellor Angela Merkel considered that commercial exchanges between the two States have to be increased because for now the level of theses exchanges only attends 8 billion euros. For his part, President Macky Sall asserted that Senegal wants to go further into decentralization and that the two countries should exchange experiences as Germany can be seen as an example within this field.

During his official visit President Macky Sall also met German President Joachim Gauck as well as German investors. This was the occasion for Senegal President to point out that the economic cooperation between Senegal and Germany has had to focus on renewable energy, environment and infrastructures.

President Macky Sall also spoke to Senegalese diaspora in Berlin (2.5000 people) in order to encourage them to “catch German investors”. He also congratulated them for their successful integration in Berlin, and set as an example the German deputy from Senegalese origin Karamba Diaby.
