Event Introduction

The “European African Alliance Conference 2012” is the first of several conferences relating to Africa. This conference will focus on the relationship between Europe and Africa in the context of development, trade, security and cultural exchange with the view to explore and evaluate Africa’s and Europe’s role in the field of Cultural Diplomacy.

Africa’s relationship with Europe and European institutions institutions has developed significantly over the last decade making the European African relationship interesting and relevant topic for discussion today. The program will consist of lectures seminars, debates and panel discussions featuring leading figures from international politics and diplomacy, academia, civil society, and the private sector.

This conference will focus and analyze political and economic issues such as migration and employment, the role of institutions, democracy, trade, development and security in the relationship between Africa and Europe.

The conference is open to applications from governmental and diplomatic officials, civil society practitioners, young professionals, students and scholars, private sector representatives, journalists, and other interested stakeholders from across the world.

Certificate of Attendance

All participants will be awarded an official certificate of attendance upon completion of the program, which provides details about the speakers and topics at the conference. Each certificate will be signed by members of the ICD's Advisory Board.

Conference Locations

Based primarily in Berlin, the conference will be hosted at a number of important political, historic, and cultural locations across the cities.

Conference Speakers

Speakers during the conference will include leading figures and experts from civil society, international politics, academia, diplomacy, and the private sector from across the world. Participant Papers »

The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy encourages research and progressive thought on the fields of culture, globalization, and international relations. As such, the ICD welcomes participants of the conference to submit relevant papers addressing topics within these fields particular to their interests and passions. Participants can submit papers written in the past for other purposes or ongoing research, or written specifically for the conference. Groups of students are also allowed to submit collaborative pieces of work.

The goal of the European African Alliance Conference 2012 is to raise awareness about the interdependence between Africa and Europe as well as the challenges and opportunities this relationship might face. In discussing these issues, the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy hopes to facilitate dialogue and understanding as tool to promote deeper international cooperation and relationships.

The conference seeks to achieve a deeper understanding of the importance of cultural dialogue and how cultural diplomacy has been used to enhance further cooperation between Africa and Europe. The Institute for Cultural Diplomacy believes that this conference can contribute greatly to a broader academic debate concerning interregional exchange and methods for enhancing intercontinental partnerships.
