The 51st Anniversary of Burundi’s Independence Celebration
Berlin
During the "Symposium on Cultural Diplomacy in the African Union," the Embassy of the Republic of Burundi and the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy hosted the 51st Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Burundi, a country which has managed to transform itself from a post-conflict country to a beacon of stability and development in the African region.
To commemorate this occasion, the Embassy of the Republic Burundi hosted a celebration at the ICD House of Arts & Culture. Alongside conference participants, guests included members of the diplomatic community and the Burundian diaspora.
The first day of the celebrations began with a keynote address by H.E. Amb. Eduard Bizimana. To give voice to the cultural element of the festivities, Burundian art was displayed and the evening concluded with performances from traditional Burundian drummers, who give Burundi its name as the "beating heart of Africa."
The second day of celebrations was dedicated to the Burundian diaspora, which was marked by debates and artistic showcases, including Burundian song, dance, and drum performances. The focus of the academic session centered on “The Burundian Diasporas' Contribution to Socio-economic Development.”
The day concluded with a colorful cultural evening comprising significant participation of the Burundian community in Germany.
