The fourth EU-Africa Summit will take place in Brussels on 2-3 April 2014, under the theme “Investing in People, Prosperity and Peace”. African and EU leaders, as well as the leaders of EU and African Union institutions will gather in Brussels in order to discuss how to deepen the three key areas of investment between both continents. The Summit will seek to assess in which ways the EU-African partnership can cooperate more effectively through discussing topics such as education and training, women and youth, migration, employment, growth stimulation and security. The Summit will follow the spirit of the Joint Africa-EU Strategy Partnership adopted in 2007, which reflects the shared vision of the two continents to move beyond a donor/recipient relationship towards long-term cooperation on mutual interests.

Ahead of the summit, accompanying events are foreseen to involve a variety of European and African players in the debate and reflection on EU-Africa relations, which are expected to produce recommendations by different experts. Such recommendations will be presented during Summit. These associated events are the EU-Africa Business Forum, the EP-PAP Parliamentary Summit, the Africa-EU Youth Leader’s Summit and the Africa-EU Civil Society Forum, besides previous summits that took place in Cairo (2000), Lisbon (2007) and Tripoli (2010).

In the EU-Africa Summit in 2010, an action plan for the period 2011-2013 was agreed, which set out concrete targets within specific areas of cooperation, such as peace, security, democratic governance and human rights. Therefore, the 2014 Summit will be an opportunity to share the results achieved, as well as to explore areas for future cooperation.
